Subject Leader Profile:
Miss Orme
Miss Orme is our Science subject leader at Roe Lee. She believes that through learning vocabulary, questioning their knowledge, investigating and working scientifically we can promote the children’s love for Science.
Miss Orme strongly believes in investigating and experimenting Science hands on using the school grounds, visits to areas of scientific interest and visits from knowledgeable experts linked to class topics.
Throughout this, children should have the opportunity to be inquisitive and experiment to answer their questions. She endeavours to include worldwide environmental issues into the curriculum through Science afternoons, days or weeks.
Miss Orme runs a gardening and eco club which also work with agencies in the local community.
Science Intent Statement:
At Roe Lee our intent is to provide children with the scientific knowledge required to be able to gain a strong understanding of the world we live in. Children will be taught key scientific vocabulary before and during teaching of topics. This vocabulary will be revisited to ensure it is embedded and knowledge and understanding is being built on progressively.
Children will be taught a progressive range of skills in Science which will allow them to work scientifically, leading them to become independent science learners, exploring ideas and planning and investigating scientific experiments. Alongside this we encourage the children to be inquisitive via hands on learning.
Learning is enhanced through school trips to places of scientific interest and visits from professionals into school.
At Roe Lee we want our children to become responsible humans as they begin to have awareness of the world around them and to be able to show how we have positive and negative impacts on the world.
